Cookies are always something I find fun to do, especially if they are thumbprint cookies. There are so many options to pick from and not to mention they are quick to make. When it comes to cookies, I find that it is something that almost everyone can make. They are customizable and can last a long time in the freezer.
Thumbprint cookies or hallongrotta is a cookie that originated in the 19th century. It is a basic cookie, a buttery, and vanilla-flavored cookie with a pocket of jam in the center. Its a very simple and festive cookie to make and does not take a long time to prepare.

Notes
Nutrition
Although these cookies are commonly used for Christmas, they can be used throughout the year. You can change the sprinkles according to what you are celebrating and the filling as well. Not to mention, there are plenty of things you can use the leftover ingredients for. For example, is you are making valentines day treats for those you love you can combine it with my recipe for chocolate truffles.
Products and Alternatives
If you do not use flour often when cooking, Walmart does sell a 5-pound bag of flour for $2.12. With the leftover flour, you can make pancakes, a dutch baby or chocolate chip cookies, and other savory dishes. When it comes to butter, I personally love using Land o Lakes for all my butter needs. This brand is a little pricy; for one pound of butter, it costs $4.78, so don’t think this will provide a unique taste. Any butter would do, even coconut oil will work, and can be used to make this vegan. The same goes with the vanilla, I don’t have a favorite brand, but I do read the ingredients to make sure the first ingredient is vanilla beans. Similar to the vanilla, I do not have a preference in jam or preserves. If anything, I typically end up making my own and freezing it since I don’t use it often. Overall this recipe is very flexible and can be changed to fit any occasion.
